Introduction of M+ Sigg Collection: Another Story

A canvas print is hung on the white wall of a gallery and features a car hoisted over a river by a crane. Towards the left of the work is a doorway framed in black leading to the next gallery. There, a cube-like sculpture is situated on the ground before a wall display of a photograph of a rainbow.

NARRATOR:

Welcome to M+ Sigg Collection: Another Story. This is the second exhibition drawn from M+’s extensive Sigg Collection since M+’s opening. In this exhibition we are showing how artists developed new artistic languages in a rapidly changing China from the 1990s to the early 2000s. By exploring these unique aesthetics and expressions, you will be able to see Chinese art in a new light.

The show is organised around four themes: ‘Facing Uncertainty’, ‘Sensory Overload’, ‘Ambivalent States’, and ‘Hidden Disruption’.

In this audio guide, you will hear from artists and curators introducing ten works and the stories behind them. Feel free to also listen to the audio descriptions of the works to see even more detail in the work.

You can access the recordings either through the QR code or by inputting the stop numbers on the artwork labels to the keypad of our audio guide app.
